Full Text
The Gazette does not relish that portion of the Gov. Governor's Message which exonerates the President from entertaining feelings hostile to the interests of Ohio.— That such a feeling exists at Washington city, he seems most intent on establishing; but unless Gen. Jackson can be made to participate in it, his pains will go for nothing. So long as Gen. Jackson retains a hold upon the affections and confidence of the people of Ohio, discontent will sit upon our neighbor's brow, and bitterness be in his heart. It is strange how uniform hatred to a single object, will, when indulged any great length of time, absorb the faculties of the mind. A deep and corroding hatred, will make a man quarrel with his best friends, and reject from his breast, the most kindred sentiments, of its nature. This hatred of one object—this vindictiveness towards the Chief Magistrate of the Union, which distinguishes the spirit of the opposition—is becoming so intense, that the factions which compose the party, are already turning their fangs upon each other; and we shall not be surprised to see it destroyed by its own venom.
