Union Pacific Strikers Prepared for a
Prolonged Strike.
Omaha, July 11—James O'Connell,
president International Association
of Machinists, spent the day here
in conference with Union Pacific strikers and
had a long talk with President Burt.
He says the strike has settled down to
a long drawn out contest and it will be
fought out on merits.
"We want to make this a clean
fight," said President O'Connell. "We
want to try it with no violence, no
tragedy and with the best of feeling
on our part.
We have been careful in a financial
way and are prepared to support the
Union Pacific machinists for months
to come.
A new batch of strike breakers was
put to work in the local shops during
the day. They are being quartered
in cars in the shop yards.
