PROSPECTS OF FEDERALISM.
We congratulate the friends of peace and federalism on the highly auspicious result of the late congressional elections. The people have spoken a language to their rulers too plain to be misunderstood, in a tone too loud to be disregarded.
New-England now presents a solid column of federalism as impervious to the malignant attacks of faction, as was the Macedonian Phalanx to the weapons of their enemies.
Delaware continues firm in the ways of well doing, and Maryland has substantiated her claim to be ranked among the strong holds of federalism.
Astonishing changes in favour of federalism have taken place in Pennsylvania and New-Jersey, although the governments of both States continue democratick.
The result of the election in South-Carolina must be regarded with peculiar complacency, inasmuch as her representatives have, with a few exceptions, been the devoted servants of the administration. This partial illumination of the publick mind, in the South, may fairly be considered as the presage of a radical reform in the sentiments of the people, and the policy of the government.
