NEWS FROM THE PACIFIC.
New York, June 20.

We have been politely favored with the following interesting intelligence, by a gentleman who arrived in the ship Eagle, at Nantucket.

The Eagle left Valparaiso on the 22d March, and the Island of Juan Fernandez on the 26th.

The U. S. frigate Constellation, arrived at Valparaiso on the 5th of February, and while there, fired a national salute in honor of the independence of Chili. She sailed for Coquimbo soon after the arrival of the Macedonian, Capt. Downs, which frigate left Valparaiso on the 18th of March for the U. States, to touch at Rio Janeiro, and after a probable detention of 10 or 15 days, would proceed directly for Boston.

The chaplain of the Macedonian, died at Valparaiso about four months since, and was buried with military honors in the Arsenal.

Lieut. Job Patten Cambreling, of the Constellation, also died and was interred in the same place on the 17th of March last, with like military honors.

Judge Prevost who was ordered away from Buenos Ayres, has arrived in Chili in a British merchant brig.

His successor, Col. Forbes, was graciously received at Buenos Ayres, in consequence, it was said, of an understanding that he came as a public ambassador of the U. States, instructed to acknowledge the Independence of South America.

The following American vessels were lying in the port of Valparaiso when the Eagle sailed.

Ship Packet, Hill, of Boston, to sail for Canton within a month.

Ship Ocean Pink, Ocean, Pinkham—had been sent in for adjudication, and was just cleared.

Brig Canton, Tunison, of Salem, also sent in for trial and cleared.

Brig New-Jersey, Reeves, of N. York, for Buenos Ayres in a few days, with a cargo of wheat.

Brig Nereus, Jennings, of Providence.

The ship Flying Fish, Fitch sailed 18th of Jan. for Guayaquil.

Brig Osprey, Howland, sailed from Coquimbo for Canton, 15th March.

Brig Viper Ray, was sold.

The ship Chesapeake, of Baltimore had put back to Coquimbo in distress. She was heavy laden with copper, and proved leaky. Upon taking out a part of her cargo, for the purpose of making some repairs, the government seized it, as being attempted to be exported without paying the duties, and detained the vessel. The Constellation, it was said had gone there to offer her any assistance she might require.

By the arrival of the British sloop of war, the Conway, at Valparaiso a few days before the Eagle sailed, accounts were received from the liberating army under Gen. San Martin, consisting of 5000 troops.

They had retired from their advanced position towards Lima, back again to the sea port of Wacho.

This movement was in consequence of the unhealthiness of the situation they had occupied and the tedious progress of some negotiations which were then going on between the belligerents. Lord Cochrane was still carrying on the blockade of Callao, and had taken and ordered for Valparaiso, several American and British vessels for adjudication. These were principally cleared after a ruinous detention, and the expenses of a law suit. The affair of the Spanish frigate by Lord Cochrane in person, was deservedly spoken of in the highest terms of commendation. The troops of the Viceroy were reputed to be much dispirited, and several desertions of officers of rank, and whole companies had lately taken place to the Patriots. It was then the impression in Chili, that Lima would fall, before the force of San Martin and Lord Cochrane. This was the opinion of those in the country, whose feelings and interests were neither concerned in it and whose means of judging were the best.
