The schr. St. Helena, Ezra Corey, master, sailed from Curracoa on 30th ult. Left brig James Lawrence, Nemos, waiting to hear from Laguira, having left the supercargo (Echart) he being then at Carracas, the time the brig sailed. Capt. Corey reports the morning he sailed; there was a Spanish schr. arrived from Porto Cavello with passengers-reported that Laguira and Carracas had been retaken by Gen. Morales, with 4000 men; but it was generally believed at Curracoa not to be the case, as letters had been received there which made no mention of it. Curracoa was full of Spaniards from the Main-business completely at a stand on the Main. The St. Helena, was boarded on the night of the 30th May, by a Patriot privateer, and sent a Lieut. and 4 men onboard, and detained 24 hours, & sent captain Corey and two men on board the privateer -was treated politely while on board-the captain informed him that he had captured the day before two Spanish schooners from Porto Cavello, full of passengers, and landed them next day on the island of Bonair. It was proclaimed thro' out Curracoa by the Patriots that if the Spaniards would return within a certain time, their property and persons should be respected.
Business dull at Curracoa-no produce to be had at any price.
