President McKinley to Take Part in a
Celebration.
Washington. May 21.-President McKinley has accepted an invitation to be in Canton on July 4 to take part in a monster nonpartisan celebration of the day. The president had decided to go to Canton late in June or early in July before the invitation to the national holiday ceremonies reached him. It is not known whether the intention is to ask the president to speak at Canton on that date.
It is understood that the president intends to remain at Canton several weeks. The changes on his home will have been completed by the end of June, and the President and Mrs. McKinley will stay in their own home during their visit.
The president this morning finally informed Senator Pritchard that he would not be able to accept the invitation to go to Charlotte, N. C., on May 22 to attend the Mecklenburg celebration. The president will go to Fredericksburg May 25 to attend the reunion of the Society of the Army of the Potomac. May 30 he will go to Antietam to attend the unveiling of a monument to the dead of both armies. On June 6 he wants to go to Gettysburg, the occasion being the thirty-fourth annual encampment of the Pennsylvania G. A. R. Commander in Chief Shaw and other officials of the National G. A.
