Extract of a letter dated London, Jan. 7.

There are five regiments of one thousand men each, forming in Scotland, one in Argyleshire, commanded by Col. John Campbell, of Lochiel, one raising by the Duke of Athol, to be commanded by the Hon. James Murray, now in the service of his country at Philadelphia: one by his Grace the Duke of Hamilton, the command of which is offered to General Maclean, governor of Lisbon, Commander in Portugal. He was Captain in the Royal Highlanders at the taking of Guadaloupe: one by the clan of Macdonald, to be commanded by Colonel John Macdonald, of the 71st, now serving the constitution of his country upon Long-Island; and one by Lord Macleod, to be commanded by his Lordship in person. Beside which it is in a manner fixed, that the Duke of Gordon's family will raise a regiment, to be commanded by the Hon. Col. William Gordon, of Fyvie, brother to Lord Aberdeen, and the Hon. Cosmo Gordon, who lately embarked to serve against the rebels, under the command of Sir William Howe.
