It is nothing new to have to give the Lie to Chronicle assertions. It is a duty, however to prevent the most simple from being imposed on. A foul fellow with the signature of "Fair Play," yesterday said the President had been in possession of dispatches from our Envoys a month since. This is false. The writer knew it to be false; but hoped it might irritate the People against their Government. No advices have been received from the Envoys since they reached Paris. Letters from our Minister in London to the latter part of Oct. and from that at the Hague to Nov. 10, left the writers totally ignorant of the situation of the well-intended Negociation with France. Some conjecture our Commissioners are in arret. Probably there is an embargo in France, as a preliminary to the invasion of Great-Britain. If any thing decisive had happened, and there had been a possibility our Envoys would have acquainted the Government.
