Returning on the Yukon from a two months' business trip to Wichita, Kan., G. E. Diemart arrived in Wrangell Monday evening to resume his duties as mayor. He reports no snow in the states that he passed through, and that the beet tops in Kansas and Colorado were still green.
Winter wheat throughout the western states is off to a good start, he said, and many sugar beet factories are starting up to take care of the unusually large crop.
Mr. Diemart reports that the Travelair factory in Wichita is running at full capacity, but that most of the other airplane manufacturers are slowing up on production. Public works are being started in many of the states to relieve unemployment, and the city of Portland has set about widening its streets, thus providing work for many unemployed in Oregon.
