PORTSMOUTH July 27.

We hear from the western parts of this province, that on the 6th instant, there was a hurricane, accompanied with severe thunder and lightning. -- From Swansey, where by the violence of the wind, their meeting house was moved ten or twelve feet, and torn almost in pieces, and destroyed: 2 or 3 buildings more, houses and barns in said town. -- From thence proceeded in a direct line to Ipswich, and did considerable damage there, entirely destroyed a new large barn belonging to one Stait, built this spring, well finished. -- and from thence to Hollis, where it destroyed one barn and a part of several houses, during which, it drove almost every thing before it, the trees in the woods were in great numbers blown up by the roots or broken off; it was about 60 rods in width: and some places more and some less; the thunder and lightning was awful, but the hurricane with it, represented it still more terrible: and what seems to be remarkable, we do not understand that any person lost their life, or that any was hurt, notwithstanding there was at Swansey a number of men in one house, on an arbitration, the wind took the house all away, except the lower floor where the men were, and carried it so far that the highest piece of timber, &c. was 20 rods from the place where the house stood.
