Full Text

Yesterday at his Majesty's Court of General Quarter Sessions of the Peace for this Province, John Caron and Margaret his Wife were convicted of Stealing Linnen, Poultry, Bedding and other Things from several of the Inhabitants of Portsmouth and Greenland, and received Sentence as the Law directs: a Sentence indeed too mild for so many repeated Villanies. And it could be wished that Shopkeepers or others would be cautious in buying or trucking for suspicious Goods from Strangers, as it is too apt to encourage this Practice of stealing, and may in the End bring a Stain upon their own Characters. We have for the Satisfaction of the Publick inserted a List of the Persons Robbed, and the Judgment of the Court. Complainants. Fine, or Stripes, and Service. Months. 92 200 Str. 79 Months Margaret Carson £. 5 or 20 Stripes and to be sold for two Years and nine Months. The same Day at One o'Clock John Carson received 20 Stripes.
