Last Tuesday a Mexican, named Aristao Martel made an unsuccessful attempt to burglarize the warehouse of W. W. Wickersham at Bowie. He entered the warehouse through a trap door in the floor, and gathered up a good sized pile of plunder, consisting of clothing, canned goods etc., and placed it in a position where he could easily secure it, evidently intending to come around after dark and carry it off. He gathered up considerable clothing and some jewelry belonging to N. A. Jansen and E. L. Shaw. These two gentlemen are in the employ of Mr. Wickersham and room in the warehouse. They missed their clothing, and spied the fellow in the warehouse and immediately gave chase. He ran out through Mr. Shaw's room, dropping his pistol and picking up one belonging to Mr. Shaw. He was captured and word was sent to the sheriff who came to Bowie and brought the prisoner to Willcox. He was given a hearing before Judge Nichols Wednesday morning. Messrs. Shaw and Jansen appeared against him, Judge Nichols thought the evidence sufficiently incriminating to hold him over to the grand jury. Bail was fixed at $500, which he was unable to furnish and was taken to jail.
