CLAY AND TAYLOR IN SOUTH CAROLINA.—A meeting of whigs was held in Charleston, S. C., on the 2d inst., when, after addresses had been made, a resolution was offered that the delegate to the Whig National Convention be instructed to vote for General Taylor as the candidate of the whig party for the Presidency. The resolution was opposed and a substitute offered, consisting of a preamble and resolutions, declaring 'Henry Clay to be the first choice of the whigs of Charleston district.' A discussion arose which ended in the adoption of the preamble and resolutions for Clay. George S. Bryan was appointed a delegate to Philadelphia, to represent the district.
