I send you a few Calcutta papers by the brig Indus, of Salem, which is now on the point of sailing for the United States. I have very little information to communicate; what follows is all except what the papers contain.
The Emily arrived at Madras in 98 days from New-York, took in part of her cargo there. (the first ship that took in a cargo since the peace, in India) and went to Calcutta to complete her loading, where she arrived on the 20th August.
The ship Kensington arrived at Calcutta on the 10th August: was very near being lost on the western sea reef, at the entrance of the river, where she was run aground by the pilot, but got off with the loss of her rudder-her time of sailing uncertain. The ship Hope, of Boston, to sail in two or three weeks, and the ship Favorite of Salem, to sail in about the same time.
The time of sailing of the Emily is uncertain.
All kinds of goods here, suitable for our market, are very high and scarce, in consequence of the manufacturing of them being stopped when the war took place.
The abovementioned vessels are all the Americans here.
The ship Sidney, Capt. Myzic, arrived at Madras on the 8th inst.--B. Post.
