Around Town Improvements - The Bosque River Bridges.
Correspondence of the Gazette.
MERIDIAN, TEX., Oct. 29. - After four months continued dry weather, cold, drizzly northers are upon us again. Fires, overcoats and heavy boots are in demand.
Meridian is improving slowly but permanently. J. M. Williams' new stone building, 26x66, two-stories in height, on the corner of Main street, is nearing completion, and will be quite an ornament to our town.
The citizens of Meridian have just had completed a preliminary line for a horse-car track from the depot to town. Capt. Poynor, the engineer, estimates that $5000 will complete the road (750 feet) and equipments. Street-car contractors and builders can get a contract in Meridian now.
Our bridges across the Bosque river - one at this place and one at Clifton - are under headway and will soon be completed. The two bridges will cost our county something over $25,000.
The general health is good. The doctors are idle.
The weather is cloudy and as changeable as the common voter.
The price for cotton is low and still declining, but more was raised than the farmers supposed before the picking.
