BROTHERHOOD
EYES SELLERS HAVE
MUCH
TROUBLE

MEMPHIS, Tenn.-

Carrying a red streamer and launching another scandal attack upon
officials of the Universal Life Insurance
company and other Memphis citizens, including pastors and
laymen, the April 22 edition of the
"Brotherhood Eyes" made its appearance in a very uncertain manner
over the week end although an injunction had been obtained the previous Friday, April 13, by President
J. E. Walker and the Universal Life
Insurance Company enjoining several
named individuals from selling,
distributing, or giving away copies of the publication.

The legal action created a big demand
for copies of the "Eyes" and there were many inquiries as to
where the paper could be obtained.
However, wary lest they be caught,
the new agents of the "Eyes" went
about the distribution of the paper
in a careful manner. As far as
can be learned, those actually responsible for the sale of the papers here remain unknown although
one youthful salesman was deprived
of his burden of more than 100 copies by the quick action of one of
the persons attacked in the issue of
April 21.

Rumors that he had choked a young
man selling the "Eyes" or otherwise
roughly handled him were denied
by Dr. J. B. Martin. Robert
Hudson, Jr., of 5 Linden Street,
interviewed by a World reporter,
supported Dr. Martin's statement,
saying that he was not hurt by the
well known professional man.

Young Hudson, who declared that
he was trying to earn money
enough to buy some shoes, says that
a man whose name he could not
give, approached him on Beale Saturday morning and asked him if
he wanted to make some money selling the paper. He replied in the
affirmative and the man gave him
150 papers, telling him to meet him
on Beale about two o'clock. The
young man had disposed of nearly
50 of the papers before he was relieved of his stock as he was leaving
Universal Life Insurance company
following several sales in that building.

It is rumored that a "Vigilance"
committee is being formed to stop
the sale of the "Eyes".
