Full Text

The London Courier of the 3d of October says—"Seventeen incorrigible rogues, convicted at the late Old Bailey sessions, were publicly whipped yesterday morning in the Session-House yard; several of them severely, being old offenders."

In regard to the rogues themselves, they being incorrigible, the flagellation was futile; and as an example for others, we doubt it could have the least effect.—As respects the class of offences for which they suffered, and indeed every public transgression, we think the doctrine of the Grecian tragedian holds good—

"Who fears not to commit the crime, will ne'er
Be frighted at the curse that follows it."
