The Grafton Statesman will go to Congress.-Was Nominated by Acclamation-A Short Account of his Political Career.
ELKINS, W. Va. Aug. 10.-The second district Democratic congressional convention here was a large and enthusiastic one. John T. McGraw, of Grafton, was nominated for congress without opposition.
John T. McGraw, the nominee, is a native West Virginian, about forty years of age and was born at Grafton, where he resides. A graduate of Yale College, a lawyer in full practice and connected with the railroad. coal and lumber development of West Virginia. Under Cleveland's first administration he was the collector of internal revenue for the district of West Virginia, comprising the whole state, and during the same administration was the U. S. Disbursing Agent for the State of West Virginia, and as such distributed the public moneys appropriated for the building and repairing of the Government buildings in the State.
He was a delegate at large for the State of West Virginia to the Democratic National convention, which met at Chicago, and vigorously supported Bryan for President. Is the member of the Democratic National Committee for the State of West Virginia. He was the warm political friend of ex-Postmaster-General Wilson. and had the honor of presenting that gentleman's name to the first convention and the last at which he was nominated. He supported and followed him throughout his public career until Wilson's failure to support Bryan in the last election,
