Full Text
The progress that has been made in this great work, is truly astonishing. At the present moment a principle of enthusiasm in the cause of Liberty appears to have taken possession of the minds of the great body of the people; and actuated by one impulse, in whatever shape or form the ancient tyranny appears, it is instantaneously resisted.
The recent attempt of the King, and its consequences, exhibit the new character of the people in a most respectable point of light: At the moment when a selected body of troops were called upon to assist in aiding the flight of the King, their arms fell from their hands, and those whom it was expected would have been the faithful adherents of the Monarch, were instantly transformed into the guardians of the public safety.--Well might Louis declare, that he was now convinced that the people were in favour of the Revolution.
