Many Matters During Session

Meeting Conducted At Library Rooms Last Evening Presided Over By Mrs. W. Kirke

There was a regular meeting of the Key West Hospitality League held last night in the rooms of the Key West Public Library, with Mrs. Wallace Kirke, president of the organization, presiding.

The meeting was called to order by Vice-President Sebastian Cabrera after which Mrs. Kirke took the chair. On roll call it was found that there were fifteen members present and seventeen absent.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved after which the secretary read a communication from B. M. Duncan, in which he informed the league that M. E. Gilfond had been appointed liaison representative of the FERA, and that either he or someone designated by him would be in attendance at future league meetings.

Mr. Christie was present at this meeting as such representative.

The league was also unofficially informed that in accordance with its request, a watchman had been placed at Martello Tower Subdivision to protect the coconut trees and fruit growing there. In the matter of the Miramba Band, a report was made that the original band, to which the league had objected, has been dismissed and new members secured. On motion, Dr. Cobo, Dr. Pintado and Mr. Cabrera were designated as a committee to go to the station and observe the new band and make report to the league.

Two complaints were made to the league relative to (1) the matter of auto and motorcycle cut-outs and (2) the unsightliness of using porches fronting on main streets for the purpose of hanging out washing. As there is an ordinance relative to autos running with cut-outs, the members of the league were requested to note license numbers of such cars and report same to the mayor who would take proper steps to remedy this nuisance. The matter of using front porches for the drying of clothes was referred to the Publicity Committee with the request that they call the attention of citizens to the bad impression thus created and ask their co-operation in discontinuing this practice.

Reports Of Committees

The Finance Committee reported having on hand the sum of $149.00 from the sale of Key West stamps. Out of this sum $57.00 is due FERA. This will be paid as soon as the treasurer, who is ill, is able to sign the check. There are between twelve and fifteen thousand stamps still on hand, but these will be disposed of shortly. A report from the city postoffice shows that the stamps are being freely used on outgoing mail.

The Greeting Committee reported that nothing further had been done relative to the painting of the station booth and that the sign over same has not yet been placed. On motion this committee was requested to investigate the possibility of securing the small building on the Porter Dock belonging to the state's fish hatchery, for use as a tourist booth on that dock.

There was no report from the Housing Committee.

The Entertainment Committee made report that the matters pertaining to the Hospitality House were progressing very satisfactorily. The Elks Lodge has agreed to turn over to the league the lower floor of their building; plans and estimates for repairs have been made and submitted, and all that now remains is to get the

final approval of Mr. Duncan to the entire project.

Report On Dinner Dance
This committee further reported that the matter of the Dinner Dance had been taken up again and arrangements have been made to hold same at the Delmonico Restaurant on October 13. The number of guests is limited to one hundred.

The Transportation Committee reported that they have a date set for conference with FERA Administrator Duncan relative to the matter of taxi rates and other matters connected therewith.

On motion members of the league are requested to invite husbands and wives to become members. The name of Wallace Kirke was proposed and he was duly elected to membership.

The secretary was then instructed to carry out the provisions of the constitution providing that "members absent for three consecutive meetings, unless ill or out of the city, be dropped from the roll of members."

On motion the time of each meeting was limited to one hour and forty-five minutes, or from 8 p. m. to 9:45 p. m.

No further business appearing, on motion, the league then adjourned.
