Full Text

Money Stolen.
Yesterday evening about 7 o'clock, as Mr. James Bourke, Grocer on the corner of Crawford and King street, Portsmouth, was engaged in the back part of his store, some thief, who was doubtless watching Mr. Bourke's movements from a front window, entered his store, reached over the counter, drew out the money drawer, and with drawer and contents walked away.
We think it must have been stolen by some one who has bought goods at Mr. Bourke's counter and who was quite familiar with the arrangement of the store; knowing that the drawer was near the door, and slided back and forward in the counter very easily, and without the least noise.
If this had not been known to the thief, he certainly could not have had the impudence to undertake the exploit.
There were about $80 in the drawer.
