Full Text

Military Trait.

Coblenz, [Germany] Aug. 5.

Yesterday a Balloon arrived in the French camp at Vallendar, and was raised about 5 o'clock, in order to reconnoitre the interior of Ehrenbreitstein. As soon as the commandant perceived the balloon he threw bombs and howitzers at the machine, and one of them actually burst very near it. On seeing his danger, the aeronaut descended immediately, but the intrepid observer who had gone up, without delay made a second ascension, and the garrison fired their batteries at him in vain—he was out of their reach. The reconnoitre was satisfactorily made, the balloon re-descended without damage, and was sent to Rothen-Hahn. The rock is closely invested.
