SIR,

WHEN you have Room, please to insert the following Piece in your Paper, and you will oblige the Author, who, tho' no Poet, is a hearty Friend to the present Establishment, and your very humble Servant,

MISOJAGOBIION.

A BALLAD,

To the Tune of Chevy Chase.

God prosper long our noble King,
Our Lives and Safeties all;
A bloody Battle there did once
At Culloden befal.

a Tool of Rome and France,
Tales;
ad forsooth,
of Wales.
I ween,
re;
Dad,

The Highland Lairds, a Rebel Crew,
Club'd ev'ry one his Clan;
And swore they'd own no earthly Prince,
If Jemmy wa'n't the Man.

They pitch'd on Charly for their Chief.
As being Jemmy's Son;
Like him in Conduct he excell'd,
And would all Danger shun.

In mighty Heat they march'd about,
With Target, Sword, and Dirk:
At Preston they encounter'd Cope,
And beat him with a Jerk.

A Party too of Royalists
On Falkirk-Green they met;
And worsted them; for troth their Guns
Were with the Rain all wet.

Puff'd up with these half Victories,
They thought the World their own;
And come to live on homely Grout,
As they before had done.

But CUMBERLAND, that warlike Duke
Soon brought their Stomachs down;
He hem'd them up, until raw Kale
A Rarity was grown.

The Fear of starving brought them out,
Their Fate in Arms to try:
It was no Time to dally now,
For they must or fight, die.

Young Charles now posted in the Midst,
The Reason's very clear;
He now might either fight or fly,
Prompted by Rage or Fear.

They fir'd their Pistols at the Foe,
When scarcely in their View;
Then brandishing their trusty Swords,
Like Lyons on they flew.

The Battle now in close Array
Was join'd on either Side,
The Smoak and Dust in Clouds arose,
The Ground with Blood was dy'd.

The Rebels guarded with the Targe
Their Left Sides, in the Fight;
But the fell Bayonet's keen Point
Now gor'd them in the Right.

They paus'd a while, quite unprepar'd
For such uncommon Play:
Their Men fell thick, their Ranks at Length
Were broken, and gave Way.

Charly march'd off soon as he found
The Rebel Van was beat;
For you must know he was a Dab,
At timing a Retreat.

Brave Gardner's Steed reluctant bore
Th' Italian from the Fight:
His former Lord had never us'd
To save his Life by Flight.

Shift for yourselves, my Boys, he cries,
D--l take the hindmost Man;
My Part is done, I've brought you on,
Get off e'en as you can.

Now Heaps on Heaps confus'd they fly,
Struck with a pannick Dread;
Whil'st Kingston's Horse, more fleet than they,
Laid Hundreds of them dead.

The brisk Monsieurs that came from France,
To head this Rebel-herd,
Griev'd o'er Parbleu to see them maul'd,
But to their Aid ne'er stirr'd.
Soon as the Battle ceas'd, they threw
Their Arms upon the Ground ;
And gave themselves up Prisoners,
With Congee most profound.
Learn Rebels hence, how vain it is
T'encounter hardy Bands
Of such brave Men, in such a Cause.
When such a Chief commands.
Throw down the Target and the Sword,
And own yourselves outdone ;
For b'lieve me Jenny ne'er will sit
Upon the British Throne.
If he, or Lewis, e'er should prompt
You to rebel again,
Take my Advice, beg their Excuse,
And think on Culloden.
