From the Westward we learn, That a small Party of Indians had been near the Fort at West Hoosuck: That Yesterday 7-night at the Time of a heavy Rain and Thunder, a Flag was stuck on a Pole, and fixed in a Plain at a small Distance from the Fort: A Party was sent out to see the Occasion, and discovered a few Indians in Ambush, who made off as suppos'd on seeing a larger Number come out than they expected: to decoy out of the Fort one or two Men to gain Intelligence.

It is suppos'd they were St. John's Indians, & wanted Intelligence.
