The Kentucky Conspiracy has assumed a new form. While the "World" informed us of what might or might not have happened many years ago, we could follow with patience enquiries which though they could end in no serious events, which bring us into an acquaintance with the leading characters of the Western World. When we found that settlements in that western world were retarded by the British court, as much as independent governments were checked at home, we were prepared for many secret murmurings and for some clandestine purposes. But the communications are now of a more serious complexion. That the numerous political and private enemies of Mr. Burr should pursue him with all their bitterest enmities was not unexpected. It was not expected that they would find so early an opportunity to involve him in the suspicions of his best friends. How far the insinuations of his designs in the western settlements are just, is hereafter to be proved. The jealousies of the nation are awakened. Every reflection will be admitted upon the strength of his enemies and upon their determination to complete his ruin. But every thing will be expected of him which can give our own government the best evidence that all his views are honorable, and that he seeks no place in the affections of his fellow citizens in any part of the union which will not agree with their harmony and happiness. In circumstances like his own, every thing is to be apprehended from his enemies, and every thing may be in the power of those talents which have in days past been useful to his country.
