HOUSE OF CORRECTION.—The Finance Committee of the Board of Commissioners expect to visit the East this fall, for the purpose of inspecting the Houses of Correction in the principal cities, with a view to establishing an institution of the kind in Ohio county. The committee consists of Messrs. Ewing, Speidel, Frew, Waddle, Myles and Bayha. The Board some time since appropriated $500 to pay the expenses of the trip. The Board contemplates, we understand, building a House of Correction on the Poor House farm some time next year, provided the committee make a favorable report as to the cost of the building and the running expenses of the same. No definite action has yet been taken in the premises, however, and the visit of the committee is for the purpose of obtaining reliable information to govern the members in voting. The idea is, we believe, should the report of the committee prove favorable, to put up only a portion of the building contemplated, sufficient to answer the purpose at the start, and add to it as it becomes necessary. In this way, it is thought, the burden will not fall so heavily upon the taxpayers.
