The sloop Port Packet, which arrived yesterday from Turk's Island, was picked up adrift near the Reef of Salt Key, and carried on to Nassau, about the 31st Dec. last: she was loaded with Nicaragua Brazilletto, and Mahogany woods; her sails were hoisted, but no person was on board of her; the Captain's bedding, quadrant, &c. were all found on board of her; from her log book it appears that she was from the city of St. Domingo in Hispaniola, bound to Philadelphia; that she belonged to Newburyport, and that her Captain's name was Lowell. The boat was missing. A Captain Lowe, who was in Nassau when she arrived, said that he had seen the sloop in St. Domingo, that he assisted Capt. Lowell (who was sick) to count about 2000 dollars, which he was certain he took to sea with him; none of this money was found on board of her. The last day's transactions entered on the log book, was, when they were off the east end of Hispaniola, standing over towards Porto Rico. No account can be given of the Captain or crew. On her arrival at Nassau she and her cargo were libelled, condemned and sold.
