THINK FOR YOURSELF

The coming weeks are important ones for the American people. Many issues of broad political and economical importance to all of us will be discussed from various partisan angles. The newspapers, the magazines, even the very air will be filled with political pronouncements which will increase in volume as election day approaches.

For America faces a close race for the presidency with the result apparently a toss up. Because of this situation it is more important now than at any time in the past four years for every American to understand the issues of the campaign and the position of the candidates on those issues.

What shall we do?

Let us accept only facts disregarding any efforts to becloud the issues with a flood of words. Let us turn the full force of public scorn upon him who indulges in mud-slinging. Let us beware of political tricks to arouse class consciousness or appeal to minorities.

Simple rules but important. If we follow them we can cut through pretense to the real issues. Then and only then can we appraise the candidates upon whom we are being asked to vote. Only when there is an informed electorate unswayed by sentiment or by honeyed words can we reap the fullest benefits from the Democracy under which we live. Your vote is just exactly as important as the vote of anybody else in this country. Treasure that privilege. Do your own thinking.
