Albany, N. Y. (ILNS)--Attorneys representing prison contractors, who have contracts with various state prisons to employ their convicts in the manufacture of various commodities, have begun action to have the federal Hawes-Cooper prison products exclusion act and the New York state law of 1930 excluding such goods after January 19, 1934, both declared unconstitutional. The state law was enacted in harmony with the federal law.
The action is to come up in March. The attorney general will defend the law and it is expected attorneys representing organized labor will also appear in its defense.
