Ends in Arrests

J. R. Rubinson, alias Jim Reed, 23, Rudolph Martin, alias Richard King, 21, and Jack R. Mannington, 20, were locked up in the county jail late Saturday night on charges of forgery. An alleged confession by one of the men is said to show that they cashed forged checks, written in the name of a Calipatria man, then staged a wild chase into Arizona enacting robberies and hold ups which ended with their arrest in Gila Bend.

At Gila Bend the men planned the robbery of a store, the proprietor of which was to be shot, according to the confession.

It was at this point that Deputy Sheriff Frank Weidner of Maricopa county stepped into the breach and rounded up the trio. They waived extradition rights and were returned here to face the check charges.
