SHIPWRECK.
By the arrival this morning, of the brig Bordeaux, Capt. Putnam, in 37 days from Bordeaux, we have received the following account of the loss of schooner Ann & Mary of Richmond, Virginia :
The Ann and Mary, sailed from Richmond on the 27th of January, bound to Bordeaux. Experienced severe gales during most of the passage. On the 7th March, at 2 o'clock A. M. saw the Cordouan light house, bearing E. S. E. About half past eight, A. M. the schooner struck with great violence. In about 15 minutes the rudder unshipped and the vessel was rendered totally unmanageable, and the water made a complete breach over her. In this situation they were favored by a rapid flowing in of the tide; in consequence of which the schooner was carried by the breakers over a reef of rocks in four fathoms water. There let go their best bower and let out nearly the whole cable, which brought her up for some time, when the cable parted. They there let go the small bower, but the vessel drifting towards the light, they cut the cable, in the hope of her drifting to windward of a large rock, situated on their starboard quarter, and fetching a large sand shoal lying S. E. from the light house: in which they were fortunately not disappointed. About 5 o'clock, P M the upper decks separated, and her cargo began to issue out of the larboard quarter, and finally as far forward as the fore rigging to windward, and was washed across the deck, which had by this time got a considerable slew from the bottom. Shortly after, the quarter deck was separated from the main deck, and they were left with a small portion of the vessel- In this perilous situation, they remained with the sea continually breaking over them, until the one forth ebb when the tide setting in very fast, they were enabled at 10 p. M. to leave the wreck, and made to the Cordouan light house without saving even her papers, or any clothing excepting the few things they had on. They were received and entertained with kindness by the people on shore.
