The 18th of February last, was celebrated the Ordination of the Rev. Mr. GEORGE WHEATON, to the Pastoral Office, over the Church and Congregation at Clermont, 20 Miles from the New Hampshire College in Hanover. A Sermon elegant, instructive, warm and pungent, was delivered on the Occasion, by the Rev. Mr. Abiel Leonard, Pastor of the first Church of Woodstock, in Connecticut, to a well pleased and admiring Audience, consisting of about five hundred, a surprising, and unexpected Collection for so new a Country. The whole Solemnity was conducted with the greatest propriety and decency. The Sermon will be committed to the Press as soon as may be. The fertility of the Soil, the lenity of the People, the auspicious influence of Civil Government, enjoyed by this Province under the Care and direction of our very worthy Commander, attended by the kind smiles, and endearing blessings, of indulgent Heaven, on both Pastor and People, can't fail to render their situation extremely happy and agreeable. May the young and tender Vine, planted in the Wilderness, where the footsteps of barbarous Savages are scarcely erased, be long guarded by the great Head of the Church; may the wild Boar out of the Wood never molest it, nor any weapon formed against it ever be suffered to prosper.
