On Friday evening, about seven o'clock, Adam Geoha, a German laborer, living at 55 avenue C, as is alleged, beat his wife about the head and face in a terrible manner, and fearing that her life would be sacrificed, she ran into the street with the blood flowing copiously from the wounds she had received. Fortunately Mrs. Geoha found officers Clinch and Wilson, of the Eleventh precinct, to whom she related her troubles. They accompanied the suffering woman back to her house, at the door of which stood the enraged husband, with pistol in hand, threatening to shoot the first man who attempted to enter his premises. Not to be thwarted in the execution of their duty, the officers rushed for the door, and at that instant Geoha, as good as his word, discharged his pistol, which was loaded with powder, a large slug, and about fifty duck shot. The charge passed between the faces of the officers, and in such close proximity as to scorch their hair and whiskers. The slugs and shot lodged in the door post, without doing further damage. Geoha was immediately disarmed, and taken to prison, to await an examination before Justice Brennan.
