Contemptible.--At the Democratic celebration held at Tammany Hall, N. Y., in honor of the election of General Pierce, the following was one of the regular toasts, viz:
Major General Winfield Scott-His eminent services as a military chieftain entitle him to the grateful thanks of a free people.
General Walbridge in a speech eulogized the military achievements and abilities of Gen. Scott, and expressed a hope that Gen. Pierce would recommend him to the U. S. Senate for Lieut. General. The suggestion was received with vociferous plaudits.
