The evidences of the pressure in the money market, and the extreme scarcity and want of money which prevails everywhere, are, indeed, most distressing. The whole community suffers—the mercantile part bears the brunt of the calamity—but tradesmen and mechanics are beginning to feel its effects, and its operation is now about to commence upon the farmers. Everybody concurs in saying that the present exigency is alarming to the whole country. From some short paragraphs in today's paper, the state of the money market in the northern cities may be seen.
