SUCCESS OF THE EXHIBITION.
Tacoma Grateful to Seattle for Much Important Aid,

TACOMA, Oct. 11.-[Special.]-Speaking of the initial opening of the Western Washington Industrial Exposition, which closed today with a testimonial benefit to Leader Innes, of the Thirteenth Regiment band, General Manager Bucey, said this evening to a correspondent of the Post-Intelligencer:

It has been a success, a marked success. And in contemplating this success too much can not be said in praise of the way Seattle turned out to swell the attendance. I myself thought Seattle would be on hand in large numbers, but I confess I did not think she would or could send so many visitors. Seattle helped us greatly, and we appreciate it.

In addition to this statement it is given out openly by others of the management that the exposition could not have been made a success were it not for the liberal patronage of Seattle. It would seem that next to the satisfaction felt by Tacomans in the success of their maiden exhibition, comes the gratitude deemed due Seattle.

President Hale said:

Some of us predicted great things, but few, if any, looked for so large an average attendance and such a signal success. The building will be open for receiving contributions to our exhibits or exhibits intended for the World's fair. In either case the articles left will be watched and cared for. As for public inspection of the building and the exhibits, I can say that a janitor will be in charge and parties will be shown about. Our profits this year will be applied to the building fund, all of the stock not having been taken up and paid for before the money had to be raised to complete the building.

This afternoon's sacred concert netted Leader Innes about $500. One of the features was a solo by Miss McIntosh, of this city. Tomorrow Innes and his band will begin a tour of a dozen or more cities, giving concerts en route to New York. He was presented with a gold badge last evening by his admirers here.

Tomorrow many of the exhibitors will begin the removal of their goods from the building.

Saturday fully 3,000 of the 10,000 people who visited the exposition were from Seattle.

On October 20 the big building is to be opened for a grand charity ball, under the auspices of the Lend a Hand League. Innes' band has been engaged to furnish the music, and the receipts, which it is expected will be large, will go to the Children's and Young Woman's Home, recently opened here.
