States Right.—The New York Express (whig) thus speaks of the great Tammany Hall demonstration of Wednesday evening:
"What use is there in concealing the truth that the Locofoco mass meeting in and about Tammany Hall and the Park last night was by far the most numerous, the most enthusiastic and harmonious demonstration they have had there at any time during the last eight years? For our own part, we have never seen so imposing a manifestation since the halcyon days of Andrew Jackson, when "regular nominations" was the creed by which Tammany Hall had learned to live and die."
The effects of this happy nomination of Gen. Pierce, is made the subject of serious admonition to the Whigs by the Express.
"To all intents and purposes, then, the Democratic party North are united—as Mr. McMullin, of Virginia, declares they are united at the South. Their divisions here and there are healed for the time being: and, we repeat, it is useless—nay, it is ruinous—for the Whigs to shut their eyes to the fact that they are now entering the campaign, shoulder to shoulder, with an unbroken front and an evident determination on all hands to conquer at any cost."
