Big
News!
We did manage to
get a 10
per cent raise
from the
company.
Imagine
that!
But good.
The maintenance crew has a new foreman. Ted is tops they say. It's about time they got a break. Maybe he can smooth out the wrinkles which exist between production and maintenance.
Remember the 10 who dropped out of the Unit on the strength of the "escape clause"?
Half of them went back in and have inquired about fines etc.
The other five still have that glassy stare. They grabbed for back pay and wages though that the union got for the other workers. Maybe they'll come through after while.
Nearly all the returned servicemen have signed up in the Unit. The lads learned the value of organization in the army.
One of the five escapees refused to give to our soldier fund.
We have a few hungry guys who would work 24 hours a day if they could. What's Sunday to them? Another day to make money and let their families get along without them even one day a week. Ain't it awful that some guys must work 365 days a year to exist.
For old timers.
"Plaskon, when we first started picked men up out of the street and made respectable citizens out of them." So you see fellows that we were just a gang of gutter snipes.
Guess who said this.
The guy makes more than a mere 97 cents an hour.
