Full Text

Clint is the kind of fellow you like the moment you meet him, quiet, unassuming and sincerely sympathetic as he slowly smokes his pipe relating an incident of the great outdoors with which he is so familiar. Clint has a natural affinity with streams, pines and sunshine.

He was born in Willimantic and came to Newington many years ago to settle with his wife Stasia at 20 Clarendon Tr. Elm Hill, a neat short street that dead-ends at the edge of thick woodland.

He is proud of his two boys, Robert who is Assistant Manager at the Bowlorama and Clinton 'Red' sports writer and Bowling Editor of the Hartford Times. Softly he tells about the boys and how 'Red' marched from Mass. in the Hooker Trail about 15 years ago. But he glows when he mentions the names of Bobby, Cheryl, Bret, Donna and Clinton because they are his grandchildren.

Clint was a scout commissioner in Newington. Hundreds of boys have moved up to manhood under his firm but kindly spirit and 'never a one went wrong'. He should be very proud of this achievement.

It's not always easy to interview Clint because this writer found him on various visits surrounded by sportsmen eagerly discussing the best lures for the agile trout or other denizens of the deep.

His deft touch in winding a rod has attracted sportsmen from far and wide. Clint specializes in custom rods made especially to fit the particular needs of the fisherman - a rod with flexibilities that will respond to the character of its caster.

When Clint gives anybody a 'line' it's always strong enough to hold the ones that give you a fight.
