"We have been the better part of a week on the subject of the recession of the territory of Columbia to the States of Virginia and Maryland. The subject has afforded a fine scope for our orators, who love to hear the music of their own voices; The unconstitutionality and impolicy of the measure have been clearly pointed out: and the resolutions, so warmly pressed by Mr. Jefferson's son in-law, Eppes, have been rejected by a very handsome majority. The next topic, which will serve to wear away time, it is expected, will be the Georgia Claims; when we shall see the gallant Hotspur again in arms. After this the Louisiana Memorial, and a few "airy nothings" will occupy the time, until the 3d of March, when the Eighth Congress, will expire. The session will cost upwards of One Hundred Thousand dollars, taken "from the mouth of labour" -to feed the mouths of idleness. if the democrats, at the close of the session, do not say, they have "paid too dear for the whistle;" then I will confess they are more profuse of the people's money, than they formerly pretended to be !"-Centinel.
