Byrnes Orders Defense Of Segregated Schools

COLUMBIA, S. C. Feb. 12. (ANP)—Gov. James F. Byrnes last week went all out in his support of segregated schools in the state of South Carolina by ordering Atty. Gen. T. C. Callison to defend a case in a suit by Negroes.

He told the attorney general to take charge of a case in which Negroes are seeking to end jimcrow in schools of Clarendon county.

He said the result of this case "will affect every school in the state."

At his inauguration a month ago, the governor declared that he would not end segregation in the state.
