Faulkner Says Veteran Is A Vet To Service
WASHINGTON (NNPA) Employment of colored people on policy making levels within the Veterans' Employment Service of the United States Employment Service was disclosed by Perry Faulkner, VES chief in a recent conference held with National Urban League officials.
He announced a plan to hire additional colored personnel under an expanded program which authorizes assistant and field assistant employment representatives working in coordination with State USES offices but responsible to the VES national office.
In a subsequent letter to Roy W. Johnson, the League's assistant industrial relations director Faulkner stated that a colored assistant veterans' employment representative was already working in the District of Columbia, while other field assistants are at work in Ohio, Michigan, and New York He said also that as soon as feasible under present and proposed budgets, "we should like to have in those states where it is deemed necessary Negro assistant veterans employment representatives" to sell to state vocational employment staffs

In a statement to the League's anti-discrimination policy. Faulkner said "A veteran's defined for us by law and we do not have any inclination to look at it in any other light A veteran is a veteran. be he White. Negro, son of as other race."
Under the present set-up there is a veterans' representative in each state, which is broken down into area with assistant and field assistants allocated to the state according to veteran manpower. These assistants are responsible for making contact with employers in the interest of veterans. and maintaining regular contact with employers and veterans organizations with a view to keeping them advised of veterans available for employment and the veterans advised of opportunities for employment.
The work of the colored staff members is integrated with that of the offices with which they are attached. Appointment to the jobs is made through Civil Service.
