We have just received information from Gen. Wilson, of Tiffin, the counsel in the case, that the petition of Hulda, Martha & Mary Jane, for their freedom has lately been tried at Lexington Ky., and decided in favor of liberty.
Since becoming acquainted with public sentiment, and the decisions of the Courts in Kentucky, on questions involving the freedom from slavery of negroes, we have not entertained a doubt but that judges and juries, will give every colored person claiming freedom a fair hearing.
Indeed we are satisfied that in their adjudication, every doubt goes in favor of freedom. The counsel that have had these suits in charge deserve great credit for their energy and zeal.
It was the prompt action of James Harlan, the Attorney General of Kentucky, that saved two of these persons from being transported beyond the borders of that State to the far South.
It will be remembered that eight persons the children and grand children of Peyton Polly, a negro in this county, were kidnapped at the hour of midnight, in the summer of 1850 and have been absent since, four in Ky., and four in Va. awaiting the trials for their freedom, except one a lad about 19 years old who had his cause heard and decided in favor of his freedom at Louisville last Summer by Chancellor Pertle.
