The Canning Festival
The two-day Canning Festival just concluded at the USO Service Men's Center was a tribute to the industry and ingenuity of its sponsors and a great credit to the Negro people of Atlanta.
Bringing together the collective thinking and procedures of the many individuals and organizations interested in better foods at lower rates the object of the Canning project is to encourage women's organizations to make use of such information as is available from many sources as a means of better nutrition, health, and economy in the home.
The city-wide exhibition was held under the joint sponsorship of the Booker T Washington High School, Sears Farmers' Market Women's Clubs, City Public Schools, together with the Victory Gardeners' organization of Fulton County. Especial commendation is to be given both to Mrs. Virginia Turner Akridge and Mr. B. L. Colbert, under whose joint directions the articles for exhibition were assorted and assembled.
We congratulate all who, in unusual, contributed to the success of the project including the Sears Market officials, who provided the handsome prizes as a source of stimulation for greater efforts and better exhibitions for the future. Next year, let's make the best better.
