The changes have been rung so often on "Walker's case," that it has at length, become a "nuisance, which ought to be abated." I had hoped, that the near approach of the day-"the all important day"-when the in's go out, and the out's come in- would so have monopolised the attention of the worthy reformers, that this case would have been suffered to float quietly down the tide of oblivion. In this, I have been mistaken-and with every morning's paper, recurs in glaring capitals, "Walker's case"-there seems to be no end to the matter. "B.'s" last communication concludes with the promise of another infliction from his pen-from which, in his own language I exclaim, "Merciful Heaven-save us." What is the object of all this agitation? What end is it designed to accomplish.? The man is now at liberty, and on the very same terms, which were offered to and refused by him long since-does "B" expect to gain popularity by this show of philanthropy? if he does he deceives himself.-
He and his motives are known and appreciated for what they are worth. Philanthropy has nothing to do with them- his aim is to cast odium upon the Common Council, and to become a member of that body himself. There are men among us, of whom "B." may be one, who would have rejoiced in the success of this experiment to evade the payment of taxes-and all the noise and clamor that has been made in this case, were made with a view of brow beating Council into the measure of defeating themselves- but I am glad that the Council had more firmness, than to be influenced by such puny efforts at dictation. If the man has incurred expenses, he is indebted to his own obstinacy, and the advice of his friends. As to "B.'s" facts, one of them, that the house and lot were bequeathed to Walker for his kind attentions to the lady who devised it, is totally wrong. With respect to the purchase of the property, it was made by Walker under an execution obtained by him against this very lady's estate after her death, for nursing, and attendance in her last illness.
Is not this "B." a resident of the Fourth Ward, and the same person who declared that a certain member from the Third Ward should be turned out for the opinion he expressed during the discussion of Walker's case in Council? Admirable impudence! Are the voters of the Third Ward prepared to tolerate it.

Main Argument
the agitation over walker's case by 'b.' is a ploy to discredit the common council and gain personal political advantage, not genuine philanthropy; the council rightly resisted pressure to allow tax evasion, and facts about walker's property are misrepresented.
