SHOOTING AT A WATCHMAN. We mentioned some days ago that some negroes, being surprised in the act of burglariously breaking into Mr. G. R. Howard's tailor shop, one of them had shot at Watchman Fabius Hicks whilst the latter was pursuing, and that the negro had escaped though more than once knocked down by the watchman. From papers found in a coat dropped by the negro in his flight, a clue to his identity was obtained, and on yesterday morning at one o'clock, Watchman Jenkins succeeded in arresting him at the house of his wife (a free woman on Duval street). Several wounds on the top of his skull attest the vigor with which Mr. Hicks applied his club. Since the night of the occurrence the negro has been runaway. The case being brought before the Mayor on yesterday morning, and the facts heard, the negro, whose name is Edward, and who belongs to Mr. W. W. Jones, was sent on to the Hustings Court.
