Weittenhiller and wife, then went to Stitzer to spend a week with daughter Lenice, planning to return to Platteville before home in Hartington, Nebraska. Burney educated at Platteville Normal, wife daughter of Obed Jones of White Oak. Successful richest farmer in Cedar county, Neb., sons in cattle feeding: filled 30,000 bushel elevator with corn at 22-30 cents/bushel, bought steers at Sioux City for $44/head, sold for $10.40/cwt., clearing $75/head. Burney praises Southwest Wisconsin farming but notes dairy business confining compared to steer men's leisure.
