BONAPARTE
Has been so often called savage and unfeeling, that we cannot avoid giving the following additional testimony of his unforgiving and sanguinary temper. The fact may be relied upon.
On the 21st of March, the morning after his return to Paris from Elba, he asked for Berthier, and was informed that Berthier had accompanied Louis in his flight. "Indeed!" observed the emperor, "I must have him back, I cannot part with him—but I shall punish him severely—Berthier shall wear the Royal uniform four and twenty hours."
