Full Text

CONGRESS.

Mathew St. Clair Clark, of Pennsylvania was on the 3d inst. chosen clerk of the house of representatives of the United States.

In the house of representatives yesterday the subjects of the president's message were referred to a number of committees: and little else was done in the house, the rules of the house (perhaps wisely) prescribing that the unfinished business of the last session shall not be taken up until after the expiration of six days of the present session.

The senate is pretty full, and the vice president in his place; but no business of importance has yet been brought forward, and probably none will be, except the appointment of committees, &c. for some days to come.
