JACKSON STATE COLLEGE BOOK REVIEW MONDAY
The book, The Great Ideas Today 1961, edited by Robert M. Hutchins and Mortimer J. Adler, was reviewed by Dr. Richard Jefferson, Professor of Literature and Humanities, Monday, January 22, 1962 at 6:00 p.m. in the West Reading Room of the Jackson State College Library. "The book is the first in a series of volumes designed to examine the problems of today in terms of those books which, over the centuries, have been recognized as great" or classics. It was published in 1961 as a special project of Encyclopedia Britannica, Incorporated, the publishers of Great Books of the Western World Series, which comprises 54 volumes.
Reverend James Wiley Brown, Jackson State College Chaplain and teacher of Philosophy and Social Science, who conducts a Reading Seminar for seniors based on the book to be reviewed, presided at the Book Review and lead the discussion period.
The public was invited to attend and to participate in the discussion which followed the review.
The Jackson State College Book Review Series is a joint project of the Library Staff and the Language Arts Area.
